 Summary:

  Bhavani  Prasad  hails  from  a  reputable  family  of  goldsmiths. As  an  assessor  of  gold  for  a  bank,  he  occasionally  assists  his  manager  in  using  the  gold  that  clients  deposit  for  their  own  benefit. Bhavani  shares  a  home  with  his  grandfather  and  his  two  useless  older  brothers  who  have  a  gambling  addiction. A  well-known  deity  in  their  village  is  the  reason  most  bachelors  and  spinsters  get  married  quickly  after  praying  to  her. One  day,  Bhavani's  grandfather  has  a  stroke  after  finding  out  that  the  government  will  soon  take  over  the  temple's  obligations. After  getting  better,  he  tells  Bhavani  what  happened  twenty  years  ago.
